A Trip to Venice

June 14, 2011

Hello Everyone,
It’s Samantha again posting an assignment to the blog. These next few photos are about the Arizona in Italy’s trip to Venice. I had a great time despite the rainy weather and took some photos of my experience. As always I hope you will enjoy!

Sitting in the Water
Waiting for customers, two gondoliers sit by a canal in Venice, Italy, on Saturday, June 11, 2011. The rain that day detoured visitors from riding the canals.

Art Walk
Waking the Biennale Arte exhibits in the Arsenale section, a woman views artwork on Saturday, June 11, 2011, in Venice, Italy. The art show takes places every other year and displays works from contemporary artists.

Chinatown
Looking at traditional Venice treats, a woman takes a picture in front of a store window on Sunday, June 12, 2011, in Venice, Italy. The diversity of the city draws in visitors from all over the world, especially in the summer months.

Architecture in Orvieto

June 13, 2011

Hello Everyone,
After a very successful weekend in Venice I am pleased to be back in Orvieto enjoying the town yet again. This assignment plays on the emphasis of architecture found in Italy. I chose to take pictures of the Duomo di Orvieto, but tried to do it a little differently with the lighting. As always, let me know what you think!

Morning
In the early morning the sun rises over the Duomo di Orvieto on Monday, June 13, 2011, in Orvieto, Italy. The Duomo began construction in the 1300s and took over a hundred years to finish.

Afternoon
In the afternoon the Duomo di Orvieto sits in the sun on Monday, June 13, 2011, in Orvieto, Italy. The horizontal black and white stripes where popular around the time plans were drawn up by Antonio Federighi in the 1400s.

Evening
As the day reaches an end, the late afternoon sun falls on the Duomo dis Orvieto on Monday, June 1, 2011, in Orvieto, Italy. It is estimated the cathedral stands seven stories tall.

A Trip to Tivoli

June 6, 2011

Hello everyone,

This last Thursday my classmates and I took a quick bus ride to Tivoli and visited Hadrian’s Villa as well as Villa d’Este. The whole experience was beautiful ¬†and the slight overcast throughout the day made for great pictures. Again, I do like the feedback.

Take Cover
Hiding under an umbrella a couple watches the rainfall at the Villa d’Este Garden on Thursday, June 2, 2011, in Tivoli, Italy. The garden hosts a variety of statues and fountains dating back many centuries.

At the Villa
A statue faces the reflection pool of Hadrian’s Villa on Thursday, June 2, 2011, in Tivoli, Italy. The villa was constructed during the second century A.D. for the Roman emperor Hadrian.

Soaking it up
Drinking water, a group of school children stand by a fountain at Hadrian’s Villa on Thursday, June 2, 2011, in Tivoli, Italy. It’s is not uncommon to see school children visiting this site during park hours as part of class field trips.

An Environmental Portrait

June 6, 2011

Hello everyone,

It’s Samantha yet again posting an assignment to the blog. This week our class was asked to turn in an environmental portrait reflecting the people who live and work in Italy. I took this photo of a meat and cheese vendor in Orvieto. Again feedback is always welcomed.

The Meat Market:
Rolling up a plastic sign at the Orvieto Farmers’ market, a meat and cheese vendor looks into the camera on Thursday, May 26, 2011, in Orvieto, Italy. The vendor works at the market every Thursday and Saturday selling to residents and visitors of the town.
